Intel's SoC Update: 1B Transistors Embedded in 5 Years

Intel revealed a bit about its upcoming embedded and SoC plans. Aside from Larrabee, these are brand new areas for Intel's x86 architectures. Intel has 15 chip designs in the works and is using similar rhetoric to what we heard when the first dual-core chips were in production. Does this mean that Intel embedded and SoC designs will be as pervasive in a few years as dual and quad core CPUs are today?

AMD's Phenom X4 9950, 9350e and 9150e: Lower Prices, Voltage Tricks and Strange Behavior

AMD is introducing three new quad-core Phenom processors today: a 2.6GHz 9950 Black Edition, a 2.0GHz 9350e and a 1.8GHz 9150e. AMD has also dropped its prices, making the Phenom competitive with mainstream Intel CPUs while also obsoleting two of the CPUs it just introduced today. We also finally discovered the source of some strange behavior with our Phenom test beds.

The Nehalem Preview: Intel Does It Again

Two years ago we previewed Intel's Conroe core and to our surprise it blew away its closest competitor by 20 - 30% easily. Today, Intel is without competition at the high end but that hasn't stopped it from topping its performance by 20 - 50% with its brand new architecture. Intel's Nehalem processor is due out at the end of this year but we previewed its performance today and were very impressed; if you thought Penryn was fast, just wait until you see Nehalem.
