While not giving away much if any info about future products, Intel has cracked the door open just a bit on their Larrabee project. As expected, the information was fairly graphics centric. While we don't know a whole lot more about the hardware, we do have some better insights in to how Intel plans on using it.

Hot on the heels of the launch of the Radeon HD 4800 series, AMD sent out 10 cards into the wild based on its new R700 GPU. Despite the name, the R700 is nothing more than two Radeon HD 4870 GPUs on a single board, but with its new CrossFire X port does AMD's R700 scale better than two individual 4870s? The card doesn't ship until August/September, but the early results look promising.

In stark contrast to NVIDIA's $650 GPU launch earlier this week, AMD is letting us make an early introduction of the Radeon HD 4850 today. Priced at $199, the Radeon HD 4850 is as fast as, if not faster, than a GeForce 9800 GTX. And in an unexpected move, NVIDIA has also dropped the price on the 9800 GTX to $199 in order to compete.

Today NVIDIA introduced the most compute-intensive microprocessor we've ever reviewed. Built out of 240 simple cores, using a total of 1.4 billion transistors and with a 512-bit interface to memory NVIDIA's GT200 has a specsheet that sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. Despite being as powerful as it is, it actually faces stiff competition from within NVIDIA's own product lineup.
