The K200D has a similar control system and featureset the K100D (e.g. single control dial, penta mirror, marginally slower AF (based on power source), crappy buffer, AA-battery support, smaller size), while using the K10D's sensor.
Of course it also features improvements over the K10D (2.7" screen, dust reduction) but all in all most people would be better off buying a K10D at closeout (for less than the price of the K200D) rather than a K200D - unless you really want the smaller size of the K200D.
What type of marginal decrease in AF speed would we be talking about? I was thinking of something along the lines of the K10 until I saw the K200 sounded like a good feature upgrade.
From the Pentax Data Sheet:
"Optional Battery Grip (D-BG3)
Along with this model, PENTAX developed a new battery grip as an optional accessory for exclusive use with the PENTAX K200D. Combined with the camera body batteries, this grip extends battery life and captures a larger number of images without battery changes. With an extra shutter-release button, preview lever and AE-lock button, the grip makes vertical-position shooting simple and effortless. The battery grip also features the same reliable dust-proof, water-resistant construction as the K200D camera body.
· Power source: Four AA-size (lithium, rechargeable Ni-MH, alkaline) batteries
· Dimensions: 133.5 (W) x 32.5 (H) x 76.5 (D) mm (excluding protrusions)
"Pentax announcements made no mention of the supplier of the new 14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor. While they claim it is developed by Pentax huge resources are required to develop digital imaging sensors."
co-developed with & manufactured by Samsung.
We have added the data sheet info which states the sensor was codeveloped with Samsung. This is what most in the electronics industry had expected since Samsung is large enough to develop and maufacture a sensor like this. When it was revealed the sensor was CMOS some began speculating of Sony's involvement, except that Sony would surely have used a 14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor in their own new A700 if it had been available.

Is it safe to say that the k200d is basically a k10d for 2008?xand - Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - link
It's not really a K10D replacement. The K200D has a similar control system and featureset the K100D (e.g. single control dial, penta mirror, marginally slower AF (based on power source), crappy buffer, AA-battery support, smaller size), while using the K10D's sensor.
