I'm completely sold on it IF this thing actually comes with the 1280x720 display there's been talk about.

My Nexus S is serving me well but considering how much time I spend surfing the net on it the higher resolution display will make a world of difference.

Higher resolution would be nice, I have a Nexus S too. 1280x720 would require a monster of a GPU to push that though, maybe something like the MP2 in the iphone 4S, or a Mali 400.

This remind anyone else of the SpaceX FH teasaer video?

It has an OMAP 4460 SoC, which uses a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, which is pretty decent. Combined with the 1.5GHz clock It should be ok for 1280x720, as the lesser Tegra 2 tablets can handle that res (just about).

I would be down IF its SAMOLED+, as opposed to the SAMOLED pentile. I have a Droid Chage which is Verizons only SAMOLED+ device in the States. I have a feeling its going to be pentile, and then I won't have buyer's remorse about my Charge. One very interesting feature is going to be the audio hub. The Droid Charge's DAC is seriously the only way to go, especially with Voodoo Sound.
Time will tell. The new iPhone is pretty disappointing (to me anyway) so I am not going to get my hopes up on the Prime.

I seriously doubt the Prime will use a pentile subpixel layout. My guess is the screen will be a 4 or 4.3" WVGA SAMOLED+ panel.

It would be pretty neat if it is a 1280x720 panel.

It also would be ridiculous overkill. 960x540 is insane enough.

From the rumors/speculation threads I've read, it seems as if the only SAMOLED technology that Samsung offers at HD resolutions is a Pentile matrix. The guys on XDA are convinced that at such a high resolution, the pentile matrix subpixel layout will not be as discernible as it is on lower resolutions. I guess we'll find out.

It could very well be the same phone they just released in the Korean market. It only shows a superamoled screen unfortunately.

Apparently, T-Mobile and Walmart are teaming up to release a 30 dollar plan where you get 5GB of "4G" data (edge afterwards), unlimited texting, and 100 minutes (yes, only 100 - overage is 10c per minute) on October 16th.

If this phone is GSM on TMobile... (especially if it's a 42mbps phone...) then that will be the biggest win ever. EVER.

Unless you like to actually make calls.

I wonder if this will be getting Samsung's 1.5GHz Exynos. Seems likely, since this is their own flagship and all. The 1.2GHz variant is already the fastest SoC in a smartphone shipping today, and its rumoured the new one will have double the GPU clock speed as well, so that will be quite a beast.

So... who has the patent for curved glass on phones? That's how pathetic the patent situation has gotten. Glass has been curved pretty much since man first discovered how to make it. But the first thing that crossed my mind upon seeing this was, who holds the patent for the "innovative" idea of using curved glass on a phone?

This seems that it will be a nice device.

Do we have any good direct comparisons of their relative power? It sounds like the A5 has a particularly excellent GPU, and I'd love to know the relative performance expected of the 4S vs the Prime.
  • tipoo - Wednesday, October 5, 2011 - link

That's what I'd like to see too. Apparently the 1.5GHz Exynos will have a GPU clocked nearly twice as high as the 1.2GHz one, so that would put it in the MP2's range of performance.

is there any article that discusses the duel-2 processor in the smartphone?
