I've been working with Johan de Gelas for quite a while now, but I've been a fan of his for much longer. He is honestly one of the most efficient writers I've ever seen, being able to cram more information into a few paragraphs than I could in a few pages. Needless to say, when he wants something, I listen.
As AnandTech branches out into other areas with things like our Mac articles, Gaming pieces, overclocking investigations and Consumer Electronics coverage there was concern that we would be diluting our IT user base. Not to mention that the amount of IT/Enterprise-specific content was scarce already, Johan and I both shared the concern that whenever we did publish something from the IT/Enterprise world it would just get lost among everything else at AnandTech.
I asked Johan what he'd like me to do about it and he came up with a plan: for an IT specific portal at AnandTech. The goal here wouldn't be to develop a high traffic IT site but rather a small, but very focused community around IT/Enterprise related content. I'm an easy guy to work with so after some shifting of priorities I finally gave Johan what he wanted.
IT.AnandTech is Johan's baby, it's run by him and his team and the goal is to have a very IT/Enterprise specific location at AnandTech. Articles that go up on the IT site will also appear on the AnandTech front page, but the IT front page will only display specific IT/Enterprise articles and blogs. The IT site is accessible either by the URL it.anandtech.com or from the IT Computing tab at the top of AnandTech.
Johan is also running a separate community over there, so the discussions will be moderated strictly to be IT/Enterprise focused (no more comments about Gaming Performance of 8-way Opteron boxes :)...). This week Johan and his team are out at VMWorld so be sure to check out their ongoing coverage at the new IT site.

Congrats to the entire AnandTech family on this one. I have been waiting for a long time for you guys to do this. I'm sure i'm not alone here, but having been an avid visitor to AnandTech for a decade it is good to finally see it move on to this topic. I remember reading this site when I was just a call center tech. Throughout the years as my job responsibilities changed to more in-depth IT I have longed for this site to develop something like this.I can't wait to see what is in store.

Hi Brian,Thanks for letting us know you have been waiting for this one!
What to expect:
1)An in depth "nut and bolts" virtualization article
2) Some interesting observations about AMD's en Intel's newest servers CPUs and virtualisation
3) A review of Sun pretty special Tigerton server (x4450)
4) In depth benchmarking on the different virtualization platforms.
And hopefully a thriving IT community free from discussions of NVIDIA vs ATI/AMD :-)

Sounds great. Here are some topics I would like to see:1) Server Reviews (Dell vs. HP vs. IBM vs. SUN)
2) An extensive Windows Server Benchmarking suite for servers. Now with Server 2008 it would be great to see a real review of the new server OS.
3) Comparision of Networking OS against each other (W2K8 vs. LINUX) (IIS vs. Apache) (MySQL vs. Oracle vs. MS SQL)
4) VMWare ESX vs. Microsoft HyperV
5) Perhaps a review of Itanium2 would be nice too
Again i'm really looking forward to see what comes of this portal. I would love to help out in anyway possible.
