Google Fiber Goes Live Near Stanford

Google announced last October that they would be beta testing their Google Fiber initiative in a small residential neighborhood affiliated with Stanford University, and one lucky Redditor posted the results. The service is being provided free to the faculty and staff of Stanford that live just off campus and the speeds are mostly unheard of in this country. This beta test, of course, comes ahead of the roll-out of their Kansas City experiment in 1 Gbps fiber internet service. Speedtest results linked and pictured below for you to drool over.

They need Tata because Verizon and AT&T desperately want you to continue to believe we can't have internet speeds like this in the USA "because the USA is larger than European and Asian countries".I, for one, would welcome new Indian telecom overlords!

Not that common but becoming increasingly popular in Estonia as well. I can get PON (passive optical network) connection 100/20 for 24€ (34$) or actually I should say I have it for over a year now. The project started about 1 and a half years ago.This actually isn't only 1 provider but all 3 major providers offer similar solutions for similar prices (one goes for 120/10 and powerboost to 150 - eurodocsis)
Hoping to get faster speeds this autumn but not sure about it. The official routers only support 100MBit but the GPON ONT supports over 3,5GBps.
