My Windows have Screens

by Anand Lal Shimpi on October 13, 2003 11:25 AM EST
I've been living here since the end of July, and I finally got screens for my windows - meaning I can open my windows and enjoy the remaining days of North Carolina Fall before it gets too cold. I would've just opened them without the screens but then some of North Carolina's wonderfully large bugs would have decided to pay me a visit. I swear, humidity attracts the weirdest flying creatures. Any bug I have to use a car to kill doesn't need to be flying around the house :)

Thanks for all of the responses to my last blog, we're trying to incorporate as many of your requests into Part 3 as possible but please understand there's no way we can accomodate them all (at least in this review). For those that are curious, yes the 9700 Pro made it in :)

I've got painters and the screen guy here now so I have to go tend to them, and then I also have my friend Olivia coming over for lunch. Olivia was just recently engaged so congrats to her and her new hubby-to-be, Ben (longtime friend of mine, you may have heard me mention him if you've been reading for the past 6 years).

I do have one question before I depart; how many of you live in the Connecticut area? I'm interesting in any suggestions for good areas to live in CT. Let me know.

Take care and have a great day.

Yes, I live in Connecticut and to be honest, as long as you don't live in cities along the coast most of Connecticut is a nice place to live. I happen to live outside of Danbury in a town called Newtown. Not the place to buy into now, the market is a sellers market still there, but it is probably the most attractive town in the state. Look for areas where you have quick access to the interstates like i84, and a city for entertainment and jobs.

Like I said, avoid Shelton, Hartford, New Haven etc unless you're used to it. Jake's got the right idea when picking your town. Pick a town which is closer to activities which are just better for raising families or having a summer house.

Hope this is helpful, keep up the great site! You guys helped me build a super cheap system for $700 that competes with your value systems! All of your stuff is helpful even your top of the line reviews (Though I'm a value gamer myself)!

#2, what's up with the conspiracy theories. Go away.

Anyway, keep up the good work Anand. Oh, and make sure BF1942 is included. :)

CT huh? Well the only advice I can give is the middle of the state is a pretty good location.

The shoreline can be nice, but I95 is a pain in the ass during rush our everyday.

There are lots of isolated places, but they're usually just boring. I won't go on a rant about how small towns can fester drugs and alcohol as parents let things like TV raise their kids. ;)

now for why I suggest the middle of the state, I currently live in Rocky Hill and I have loads of destinations within 10 minutes driving distance. I even have 3 Walmarts in proximity to me, though I personally find that fact disturbing. With Hartford close by, and having many major high ways nearby, it's a very comfortable area to live in.

Just a warning, going toward NY from pretty much anywhere is tough during rush hour. Hopefully that's not a problem. good luck with whatever you want info. about my state for. ;)

guyz, maybe he's not looking for himself. maybe its for the olivia chick. if he just bought a house in the cheap state of NC why would he move to the expensive tri-state area?

Yes, please do explain your interest in CT... I thought you were having an AnandTech building built in NC? Have plans changed?

A friend of mine lived in Huntington, CT. for a while. Very small town but it did have a fire dept. and a greasy spoon. It wasn't far from Shelton which was a decent-sized town. Real estate was still high but was nearing respectable levels and was a nice-looking area in which to live.

Depends on if you want a bigger city feel (maybe Bridgeport or Greenwich - closer to NYC) or not and still be close to NYC.

My parents grew up in West Hartford, CT. I lived there for a year when I was in 8th grade.

The schools are great for kids, lots of arts and activities, strong religious communities (if you're in to that) ... sports ... skiing, biking, hockey, etc ...

There are a lot of nice areas all over CT though, I'd probably prefer some secluded lake area near Riverside, CT where they've been making Hitchcock furniture for years.

    :)
