    Much awaited!
  • zeeBomb - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Is that image the new forums? Hmm...I might actually create an account.
  • Bryf50 - Thursday, August 4, 2016 - link

    AHHH, I don't like change.
  • vshah - Thursday, August 4, 2016 - link

    bring back fusetalk!
  • ianmills - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Great! Waiting patiently for the comments upgrade as well ;)
  • caleblloyd - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

+1. I even volunteer to write the invite/downvote logic for free
  • DanNeely - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Good luck. I hope it goes more smoothly than Arstechnica's first attempt to upgrade their front page.
  • Rhonda the Sly - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

"Significant increase in site speed and load times"

That's the exact opposite of Sunday we want! :-P
  • chrone - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

@Ryan Smith, so this means HTTPS everywhere on *.anandtech.com? #onecanonlyhope
  • Ryan Smith - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

On the forums, yes. On the main site, not at this time.
  • chrone - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

    Great. :)

Hope someday you guys implement HTTPS everywhere to block local internet operators injecting their javascript ads to every non-HTTPS site we visit.
  • bigboxes - Saturday, August 6, 2016 - link

AdBlock and replace your ISP's DNS server
  • iwod - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

May be Anandtech could do a Series on the Fourm History. I remember they made a few Forum transition over the years. ( I am getting old... )
  • iwod - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Why am i suddenly required to change password?
  • Crono - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Because of the security breach. I'm assuming you haven't logged on since it occurred.
  • AndrewJacksonZA - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Thanks Joe, thanks Ryan. Will the forum change finally allow an edit button on the comments please?

    Pretty please?

Pretty please with a cherry on top?
  • Ryan Smith - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

It's just a forum change; the comments system is separate. That isn't changing for the time being.
  • AndrewJacksonZA - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

OK, thanks. I'm taking hope in your "for the time being." ;-)
  • p1esk - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Why is it so hard to change the comments system? The edit button was requested a gazillion times in the last 5 years. The heart and the value of anandtech is here, in the articles, not in the forums.
  • Murloc - Saturday, August 6, 2016 - link

they're two different things but the forums are also very big.
  • 0razor1 - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

I've already campaigned for this - from India we have ZERO visibility/ access to your forums and I refuse to go the VPN route.

C'mon already! Anandtech is a site I check 5 times a day. Has been the case for 10 years. I cannot for love of life understand why but for a handful of spammers, cannot access your forums.

Can something be done? I mean you push me to OCN which is great, but AT is AT, and I expect to be able to access your forums and be part of constructive discussions and not just frivolous comments on articles you choose to publish.
  • Ryan Smith - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

The new forum software gives us finer grained spam controls, so while I can't promise anything, it may help with the problem.

At the same time as one of the larger tech forums on the Internet we get more than our fair share of spammers either operating or botnetting out of India, so we've had to lock down a large number of IP addresses to keep those spammers at bay.
  • 0razor1 - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Ryan, I have faith in your ability to figure this out. There's a ton of sites that are open to Indian IPs and they do just fine - but none of them interest me in the slightest.

BTW, hope the note 7 gets that review treatment ASAP :) I've got money to spend and my note 5 feels a little long in the tooth.

+ an edit button for the comments ?
  • Murloc - Saturday, August 6, 2016 - link

I guess that at this point it's in the hands of the Purch community team.
  • Murloc - Saturday, August 6, 2016 - link

nvidia vs amd flame wars are just as present on the forums, in addition to alternator-sized bulk beef.
  • jjj - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

I hate making accounts so never made one there, odd to need 2 diff ones for the same site.
  • imaheadcase - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Responsive design that scales with resolution and mobile-friendly interface...now if that would only work with the MAIN site. Love having a huge desktop, just to have to zoom in to read anandtech.com.
  • Ryan Smith - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Humm, the main site is responsive. Depending on the window size, there are 4 different site configurations.
  • imaheadcase - Monday, August 8, 2016 - link

nope, im on phone now. So far i have had full screen ads shown, "promoted " articles about dumb stuff, etc. scroll forever on nexus 6p. At home, with adblock its not as bad, but you dont have three versions.. because it never scales correct.
  • Crono - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Is there anyone I can pay to implement a dark theme? We've been promised theme(s) since before the move to vB, and it still keeps getting put off. It would be greatly appreciated.
  • Ryan Smith - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

The theme is admittedly not our first priority for rolling out the new forums. But I will poke the devs once the roll-out is done and see if we can get a dark theme going.
  • Crono - Saturday, August 6, 2016 - link

Thank you for the prompt response!
  • Fallen Kell - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

I love how the "Guide to the New AnandTech Community" is on the forums that are now not accessible.... Would have been much better to have them here on a page that could be reached while the forums are down.....
  • John Connor - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

Well, it's about time. Would have loved to see phpBB used instead, but seen as how the Devs of vbulletin created XenForo, I can see why the choice of XenForo, epecially with migration which might be a PITA with phpBB despite their convertor. HTTPS is a nice touch. Especially when anyone and everyone can use HTTPS for free with LetsEncrypt. All it requires is a few commands in shell and you have a nice free Cert that auto renews every three months. For even better SPAM protection have a look at CIDRAM over at github. Worth a look anyway.
  • TastesLikeChicken - Friday, August 5, 2016 - link

This gets a thumbs up from me. I remember the switch from FuseTalk to vB and how some hated it. F the tech luddites. It's time to move on. I don't expect it to be perfect right away, but I do expect it to be close to perfect eventually. Hope you guys knock it out of the park. gl.
  • Aikouka - Saturday, August 6, 2016 - link

Hm... probably the best thing for me is that a bit of Google searching shows that keyboard shortcuts for things like text formatting works on XenForo in Chrome. That was probably one of the bigger annoyances when I swapped from Firefox to Chrome as it's a lot easier to just hit CTRL+B rather than to encase the text with . ...and don't even get me started on manually doing lists!
  • bigboxes - Saturday, August 6, 2016 - link

Wasn't too happy at first. Loved the classic look of vBulletin. It's a lot easier to read than the new XenForo. However, I already made the transition on another unrelated site from vBulletin to XenForo and it has a lot going for it. If it helps improve security then I am all for that. Had some hackers take down our vBulletin website back in 2014. Miss that place. Anyways, I'm sure you'll get the bugs worked out and then AT should be better than ever.
  • nfriedly - Saturday, August 6, 2016 - link

I'm reading this on my phone, and just realized that anandtech.com doesn't appear to link to the forums anywhere in the mobile view. Might be worth changing now that you have a mobile-friendly forum.

I just searched the forums for 'bristol ridge'. Got 4 results with the titles:

    Best wine for $30-40?
Where can I buy this CD?
BIG LIST - Xbox Deals (last update: 2/4 AM)
Free Fax numbers for those who miss Efax...

If I search for 'raven ridge' (which is in a title on the first page of the CPU forum), I get:

    XBox or Gamecube?
What are some must haves for Xbox?

    This is beyond ridiculous.
  • dsraa - Monday, August 8, 2016 - link

Great, now can we upgrade the comment sections as well? I think this was more needed than the forums.

Honestly, I would like a cross platform system that worked off of disqus, or something similar, and that we can edit our comments, AND AND get notifications for new ones, and replies to our own comments.

That should work like it does on many other websites, but no, not here.
  • sartwell - Tuesday, August 9, 2016 - link

This is a hardware site, can you provide some info on the hardware you are using, or is it more amazon?
  • poohbear - Friday, August 12, 2016 - link

wish there was an option for "reading mode" wherein it's darker, cause right now the forum is so white making it too bright at night!
