That's a crazy price though, especially for something with a GTX1050. PC gaming makes sense though, with sites like bundlestars and humble bundle, you can save $100s by buying PC vs console games, and get better graphics quality. You can also use it as a HTPC and do Netflix or KODI.

Guess tough to compete with Alienware.

Looks like it went through some rough shipment. The chasis is skewed and cracked open in one corner.

I get buying a cheap console, I get buying an expensive high end PC. But an expensive console-like PC? They managed to pick the worst of both worlds.

There is a market, albeit niche, for being highly compact and portable, while still being a PC.

For example, if you want to take it over to a friends house and use their TV to game on, this would be much easier to carry, compared to a mid tower weighing over 30lbs.
  • shabby - Thursday, January 26, 2017 - link

This is beyond niche, they should of included a game pad to append to its "gaming" audience.

You can get a laptop of equal performance that will be more portable and compact, plus the ability to run on batteries and the integrated display.
  • 1_rick - Monday, January 30, 2017 - link

While that's true, not everyone desires portability.
  • fanofanand - Tuesday, January 31, 2017 - link

Then what's the point of paying top dollar for the form factor?
  • 1_rick - Tuesday, January 31, 2017 - link

I dunno, maybe some people like the aesthetic. Disco was a thing.

I like the cooling vent over the GPU.

In before they release an RGB version for $1299
  • BrokenCrayons - Thursday, January 26, 2017 - link

It's already an RGB version. From the article, "Moreover, the system is equipped with RGB LEDs so to customize its look."

This shows how absolutely pathetic, stagnant, and inflexible the computer industry is. I had this idea several years ago, we all did.. It could be made even smaller and with a GTX1080 if these people had the balls to do a custom design, and don't tell me there's no budget for that because I see ridiculous gimmick products ALL THE TIME.

Reversible USB connectors took 15 YEARS to make. They are not anywhere close to standard yet. Nuff said.

The thing is, you can just buy a Silverstone HTPC case that's only a little bit larger and then you can put in a full sized ATX board, a full size long graphics card and a full sized optical drive, for something not any larger than a standard stereo. It's not worth paying for compactness in this situation.
  • andrewaggb - Thursday, January 26, 2017 - link

It's 25% too expensive to start with...

The gamer design pretty much ensures nobody actually wants it on their desk or in their living room. Honestly... why not must make it a compact PC with a decent graphics card that's still upgradeable. Basically like a NUC, but with a dual slot gpu port. And if people want to use it for gaming (or who knows what else) then power to them.

Also a 230W psu is pretty skimpy. I get the form factor, but nvidia recommends a 300W psu for those cards and 230W really gives you no options to put anything bigger in there.
  • Nagorak - Saturday, January 28, 2017 - link

The graphics card is too crappy for this to be a serious gaming machine. Better off not making it compact and putting in something with reasonable power.
  • Jumangi - Thursday, January 26, 2017 - link

Nice design but ridiculous prices for the specs. Fools with too much money only need apply.

"Current-generation game consoles, while closed systems ripe for optimization, can have difficulty providing performance sufficient for Full-HD gaming"

This sums up perfectly why consoles are a joke. I played at Full HD - 1200p even - nine years ago. NINE. And my PC at this time was not even that powerfull...

The PS4 has rock-solid 60 fps at 1080P, so I'm thinking that comment must have been referencing the Xbox One S and the PS4 Slim. The PS4 Pro does NOT struggle to maintain 60 fps @1080P

I'm left marveling at the self control it took for MSI not to put a second dragon painted across all that flat open plastic space on top...

I just happened to see one of these at Fry's yesterday before reading this article. It doesn't look quite so garish in person.

Admittedly it was powered off. I don't know how much worse the lights would have made it look.

I think they would have been better off using a 'T' series processor, e.g. i7-7700T, 2.9-3.8GHz, but only 35W and can be configured for 25W operation.

With only a GTX1060 max, the lower clock-speed of the T should be able to keep up with the 1060, and the 35W TDP would help with cooling and keeping the system quieter. Being able to down-grade it to 25W TDP would be advantageous in also using it as a HTPC, as for media playback the integrated GPU (even at 25W) should be sufficient.

People are speculating the next gen Xbox will be $599 and people are having fits over it. Selling the base model for $899 eliminates this from console contention. At the base configuration I don't even see how it is more powerful than a PS4 Pro on the GPU side, so this really isn't a "gaming" console at all, it's just an expensive SFF PC that isn't a very small form factor.

Many console gamers prefer to play their games on HDTVs rather than on monitors, and so makers of boutique PCs were set on introducing console-like computers featuring gaming-grade hardware. https://run3hub.com

Trident 3's design is so impressive, I don't think a computer can be so compact, it is very space saving and the design is also very beautiful. Black and red combine to show elegance and health.
