Smh Asus, no Vesa Mount=No Buy.
I don't need a $20 Qi Charger built into my stand.
  • imaheadcase - Saturday, February 25, 2017 - link

So you are the %1 they are not catering to. Be honest, majority of people don't care for that feature. As for the Qi charger, its pretty nice spot for it. Most people who sit down put phone next to them at PC. So be natural to sit in on the charger. Even if you don't have phone for it, you honestly complained about the charger vs the speakers? get real.

How long do monitors last? How long do Qi chargers last? I'll give you a hint. Monitors last a lot longer. I'm with CW on this one. No Vesa mount is a deal killer.
  • imaheadcase - Sunday, February 26, 2017 - link

Huh? Qi Chargers would last as long as the monitor. No reason not to.

I don't get it, what is the big deal with having a VESA mount. Do you live in a closet and have to put everything on a wall? lol

Fixed height stands hold the screen too low unless you're fairly short, resulting in neck strain and bad posture from having to look down all day if you're taller. And not everyone likes the pile of books aesthetic as a monitor stand. In terms of consumer preception it doesn't help either that the cheap stub going directly into the base of the screen style that's most common among non-VESA mounts tend to be wobbly as hell. (I have to hold the one monitor I have at work with my other hand to wipe the screen because otherwise just rubbing lightly with a screen wipe will cause it to wobble b y several inches up and down in the corners.) If the monitor has VESA mounting holes swapping the crappy mount for an adjustable one, or using it with a monitor arm if you've bought one on the past is simple and strait forward because the connection is industry standard.

No reason not to? I speak from experience. Chargers do not last that long. A couple years at max. I keep my monitors for a lot longer. As far as Vesa mounts, I use a mount that clamps onto my desk. This allows my monitor to hover over my desktop without taking up real estate that could be put to other use. I haven't had a monitor on my desktop in 15 years. The mount is clamped to the back edge and the monitor resides within two feet of my eyes. Makes it easy when I want to change height, orientation or swing it out wide for others to view. Have you ever looked into monitor arms?

The charging stand isn't a bad idea, but I don't see a lot of possible uses for it since there's not that many devices that use Qi charging.

    Samsung Galaxy S5.
    Samsung Galaxy S6.
    Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
    Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
    Google Nexus 4-7.
    Motorola Droid Maxx.
    Nokia Lumia 920.
    Nokia Lumia 928

Exactly what I mean, thanks! I doubt its a complete list, but given the thousands of different handsets out there, a smattering of Samsung devices, the assortment of Nexus models and Windows models that are no longer supported means Qi charging just doesnt make a lot of sense. What are the odds someone that happens to own one of those phones also wants an oversized monitor like this one?
  • dullard - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

Apple just joined the Qi charging consortium. But, then, you clearly correct no one actually wants Qi charging in Apple products or most of the the top of the line Android products. https://9to5mac.com/2017/02/13/apple-joins-wireles...
  • BrokenCrayons - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

I didn't say there wasn't a demand for wireless charging anywhere in my posts. I merely pointed out that, at the present time, there are a comparatively small number of Qi-friendly devices. Given that not everyone that owns one of those limited number of devices will want to purchase an ~$800 monitor for their PC, there's limited market appeal and poor sales prospects for it.
  • Diji1 - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

There is not a "comparatively small number", in fact it's the opposite. The phones listed above are the most popular devices, other than the Note 5, of the last few years.

    You are making up garbage.
  • BrokenCrayons - Monday, February 27, 2017 - link

Windows Phones were popular? Besides, a popular model phone in a world where there are hundreds of possible options, doesn't mean there's actually a large number of them in the wild. There are simply too many competitor products on the planet and too little appeal for this particular model of monitor for the feature to be a compelling addition.
  • dullard - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

And a wireless charging stand inches away from where people normally put their phone clearly makes no sense either.
  • BrokenCrayons - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

You're reading an awful lot into my comments to find things that aren't there. Just as above, I made no attempt to assess where people put their phones when they're not carrying or using them. You're inventing things in your own mind and implying that those things are my ideas in order to argue agains them.
  • imaheadcase - Saturday, February 25, 2017 - link

You are inventing things is the point, the phones listed are the top selling phones. Its hard to ignore something practical like this in a perfect spot for people who come home and sit at PC they naturally put phone next to them.
  • BrokenCrayons - Monday, February 27, 2017 - link

See above...Windows Phones never sold well and just because "everyone" loves Samsung doesn't mean "everyone" buys that specific brand.
  • rascalion - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

    Dear Asus,
Always make sure you include VESA mounting options for your users that prefer monitor arms to maximize desk space. Also on that note, please allow us to buy these panels without you're gimmicky stands.

Honestly if you made a display like this (or the ROG 34" 144hz) w/ VESA mounts and without a stand or speakers, I would buy that in a hot minute.
  • rascalion - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

    your*

    (I'm so ashamed)
  • DanNeely - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

I suspect the built in charging stand scuttled it on this model. If you're referring to the PG348Q, the specifications list on ASUS's website indicates that it does have a 100x100mm VESA mount, so you can disconnect the eye-cancer lightup stand and replace it with something more tasteful.

  • imaheadcase - Saturday, February 25, 2017 - link

VESA mount is still a minor thing, not really used much for majority of people. As for stands, its not gimmicky considering the phones that use it most are in top 10 already.

If you want to talk gimmicky at least focus on the speakers like most do.
  • imaheadcase - Sunday, February 26, 2017 - link

I hope you understand, as well as others who make remarks like this, you don't need 144hz
  • LiquidSilverZ - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

This monitor reviewed well at PC Monitors.

Amazon says it has an IPS panel, not VA.
  • DanNeely - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

Asus's spec page says VA, I know which I give the most weight to.
  • Radium3D - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

Not a good idea to add tech like this to a monitor. Waste of money. Also, I can't use curves monitors due to the whole inability to illustrate straight horizontal lines. Rather have a flat 166hz+ 30 inch 16:9 with zero input lag please. As a coder the extra height is important.
  • Radium3D - Friday, February 24, 2017 - link

Forgot to mention 4k 160hz zero input lag 😁
  • Xajel - Saturday, February 25, 2017 - link

Ops, it's missing HDR and VESA mount... thanks but it's not for me
  • Sn3akr - Sunday, February 26, 2017 - link

The major issue with this monitor.. No height adjustment.. I mean it looks beautiful.. But what does it matter if you have to stack books under it to adjust the height! Once you've had a monitor with ergonomic design, tou don't want to leave out that as an option. And with that pricetag, it's being targeted at users that spend a lot of hours at their PC's, and then you want it to be ergonomic.
  • imaheadcase - Sunday, February 26, 2017 - link

You don't have a chair that moves up and down? With that money you spend on monitor you surely did not skimp getting a great office chair and desk...
  • DanNeely - Sunday, February 26, 2017 - link

If you adjust your chair height for your monitor it's no longer at the right height for your wrists/elbows or legs. Meaning you've just swapped one bit of bad posture for a second (and getting RSI in your wrists from having them at a bad angle is a more serious problem than a stiff neck from being bend over all day looking at something too low down).

It appears displays are now becoming the Swiss Army Knife of peripherals. I just want a high quality display, with no extra cost added because they think I want a charger, USB Hub, Crappy Speakers, mood lighting, or any of the other stuff.

Though, simply the 6GB RAM and 64GB storing variety is available under 30k.The Redmi K20 Pro is the most noteworthy Redmi phone https://bytegig.com/ to ever dispatch in India and is presumably the best phone to buy under Rs 30000. It's a no ifs, ands or buts lead PDA with the Snapdragon 855 in the motor close by 8GB RAM and 256GB amassing.
