I work in the tv-business and in many relatively affluent western markets SD assets / channels / assets are still more popular than HD ones.
I'm not so sure that people really care about quality so much. I think that "regular" people run their TV's for considerable time and when they do upgrade, they might answer quality to the purchase decision questionnaires only to justify purchases for themselves, despite tuning to SD channels after carrying the new TV home...
You are right @zepi. In my house there are 3 TVs and all of them are still CRT and they still run on analog cable. Really, I have nothing to complain about and really the colors reproduction is much better than most of the LCD TVs available now on the market. Resolution is not a problem also...

I wonder how much people still watch TV channels vs DVD/Blue-ray + Netflix etc in the US.But there is almost no UHD content anywhere, and not going to be anywhere soon - this is the most useless feature ever, even more useless than 3D.
