If we must have these stupid goddamned "notches" in our screens, creating an ugliness and imbalance in the appearance of the device, at the very least the second mode should be the default: hide the damn thing by leaving white on black icons in the corners. That's just about passable.
In a full screen app (e.g., video) then the clock and notification icons can dim or disappear if necessary, rather than have that stupid "video with notch" view.
Where have you seen "video with notch" view? I have essential PH-1, and video does not have a notch in it. That is why the screens are wider than 16:9 to begin with.
If they're going RGBW, then there's a good chance they're doing similar subpixel number-fiddling as Pentile panels have done in the past (https://www.notebookcheck.net/Faux-K-Make-Sure-You... and using two-subpixels-per-pixel rather than four as you might expect from experience with RGB panels.
The last RGBW screen I used was an old Motorola Q, and it was garbage. The contrast was horrible. Will definitely wait for a quality review before I would consider this phone. Anyone know what SoC will be used?
Brother see this<a href " https://youmobile.com.pk/phone/792/lg-g6-price-in-... "> LG G6 ThinQ </a>.The new Oreo update is about 1.8GB in size and comes with a build number of OPRR1.170623.032 and software version V20f-IND-XX, as reported by Fonearena. In terms of feature enhancements, the update offers a new home screen layout and an improved notifications management, among many other small-time features.
What's amazing about the completely bizarre 'notch' imitation is that I have no doubt Apple views the notch as a compromise they had to make in order to accommodate the FaceID sensor array. If they could have figured out a way to go all screen you can bet that notch would not be there.
Im sure no one is coping apple...every one is doing better than apple with smaller notches..im sure every one wants to go full screen but no one cant at the moment..leaving the notch for senosors and camera is the best they can do..
Ah ok, so all those phones are copying the notch from Essential, nothing at all to do with the iPhone X making the curved corner notch an immediately recognizable design cue? I'm not trying to take any sides here but that seems like a stretch.
apple did not come up with this notch idea. LG V20 was the first to take advantage of that extra space by adding that "second screen" and maximizing its functionality and usability by pushing the notch to the left top corner. apple moved it to the center is all.
I have a V20 and love it but I am still running Nougat. No Oreo update. So I won't buy a new LG phone, however good, because of their snail-like upgrades and patches.

Do we know when Android is expected to support colour management properly? Without it these wide gamut displays are kind of questionable.Dr. Swag - Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - link
Oreo was supposed to have it but I don't think a lot of apps are making use of P3 yetpiroroadkill - Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - link

Who's ready for screen burn in like on the LG G5? (It's actually more like ghosting.)SteelRing - Friday, April 27, 2018 - link
