At least Apple only wants your money. Google wants your money and personal data and hides that behind silly talk of "open" blah blah blah, so transparent unless you are really gullible. I've never seen a more lukewarm audience. They can barely get them to applaud. Maybe because so few Android developers actually make any money. I have both iOS and Android devices btw...I prefer Apples straightforward approach to Googles lies and subterfuge.
The only way iOS is less open than android is that Apple screens out porn and malware from the store. The reality is, you can install whatever app you want on your device just by paying $99 for a developer account--which means open source iOS software isn't stopped.
Plus if you'll develop using web technologies (the only way to develop for google glass, btw) you can bypass the appstore completely to install javascript apps on people's devices.
The "apple is closed" is not reality, but propaganda from the android ideologues.
The secret to excellent trolling is making it look like you aren't trolling at all. You know, seemingly very close to unbiased but still slyly favoring whatever you are illogically a zealot about. You've got a long way to go.
Now about this "less open" business, there are still some extremely basic things I can't do on iOS that are maddening. Like changing the default browser. How "open" is your platform when users can't even make basic choices like that (I shouldn't have to jailbreak just to use Chrome by default)?
I like my iPhone 5 (work), and my Nexus 4 (personal). But iOS being as much of an open platform as anyone else isn't an argument you should bother with. Stick to fragmentation/updates or other good troll bait. Now I'll go enjoy the rest of your lunatic ranting which is sure to appear on all of the upcoming Google posts, with a bowl of popcorn and a coke.
Erm.... Android *is* open source (Though there's an internal repo that people actually open, source is released when new versions come out). And you can install stuff on an Android phone without going through Google.
There are certainly plenty of reasons to get an iPhone, but I think Google wins easily in the "open" department. Certainly could do much better, of course.
Naive fanboy. Why do you need to justify your "love" for Apple ? I thought macusers need OSX and thus have to use Apple's hardware or perhaps they appreciate the company's "culture". Yet here you are venting your frustrations towards Google. Keep buying Apple and ignore Google, MS and others. No need to burn braincells for nothing.
So, 400M activations in 2012, 900M in first half of 2013? That means 12.5 BILLION activations by the end of 2014. It will be really impressive, especially given that there are still only going to be 7B people on the planet.
The reality-- These numbers are just made up. Google doesn't report them to the SEC. And no android manufacturers report sales numbers. When they have to reveal them -- as samsung did in the trial last year-- they turn out to be pitiful.
The whole "android is winning" and "android is most popular" claims are bullshit buttressed by lies like these made up activation numbers and "analysis" by companies like Gartner that just report what they're paid to report. Google pays gartner and they dutifly claim that android is gaining marketshare.
Independant analysis shows the iPhone outsells al other smartphones combined-- android, blackberry and nokia, etc. ...and that's not even including tablet figures (a market Apple owns.)
It's sad that people are so unaware that they can be manipulated simply by lying to them.
And of course, every faboy with an android wants to believe that android is winning. Pathetic.
eh I don't really care who is "winning", as long as the OSes are still actively being supported (in the sense of - has there been an update in the last 3 months?). I used the iphone 4s for the last year (2 years?), before that the original moto droid / droid 2.
I'm going back to something android - iphone5 doesn't excite, imessage is flaky, email client in iOS is meh, and so is calendar integration (company I work for uses google apps to boot). And discovering apps in the iOS appstore is awful (though I'm not sure it any better on Google's app store, whatever the h@ll it's called now...).
Not the galaxy s4 tho... build quality is probs terrible (I miss the original droid build quality!!!). Can't lie, it feels like apple is the only company that builds each phone like it's their last.
you're the one thats pathetic. check your basic math again. that's 1.25 billion, not 12.5 billion, based on your own projection. your ifanboyism is clouding your brain.
13! years behind Apple on integrated IDE, only 3 years behind on gamecenter.
It's kinda sad how all google can do is rip off from innovative companies.
Oh, it was wrong when microsoft tied windows to IE to gain marketshare, but it's ok that Google pushes chrome on anyone who does a search... right? Hypocrisy much?
apple does nothing to help the world of technology progress. Apple creates devices for simple people. Google is becoming a company of productivity for professionals. Yes Apple builds good quality hardware. Yes iOS is popular.
You say google shits on privacy. I say their data collecting makes EVERYthing they do for me more relevant. If they somehow anonymously know I as a datapoint in their tables like sushi, and I do a search for food and it brings up sushi instead of pasta, i LIKE that. That is a good thing. Google knowing what I like makes all the information they give me more relevant.
You act like google could actually do something to harm you with your own data. Who gives a crap if Google knows I commute at 8 (in order to serve me traffic updates automatically)? Who cares if they know I live in some city somewhere (So they can give maps recommendations easily).
Apple knows they are losing the war. Therefore they hire bloggers to promote apple products. When is the last time a real apple fanbois read anandtech? This is a site for people who love hardware, not love brands.
Yup have to agree says a lot about the comparison. VP9 looks terrible. If that is what they are offering VP9 is dead in the water. It looks like the VP8 game replayed all over. Lots of promises about how good it is but when we get down to it the only advantage is it is free (as in open source) - ie no hardware acceleration, no pro tools, same bandwidth for the same or worse quality.
uptil I looked at the bank draft which was of $9991, I have faith ...that...my cousin woz like they say actually making money part time from there computar.. there neighbour started doing this 4 only about 11 months and resantly cleared the morgage on there condo and bought a great Dodge. this is where I went,Bow6.comCHECK IT OUT

"you can install whatever app you want on your device just by paying $99"Thank you for that sentence.
You just made my day.
I also think that open source for an OS means more than just apps.

And the ONE THING they really SHOULD COPY from Apple-- respect of users privacy-- they never will.Because, with google, you're the product. They give away this crappy ripoff of apple innovations in order to sell you to advertisers.

VP9 looks terrible. Was their intent to demonstrate how bit-starved content looks worse? Banding and blocking galore:http://images.anandtech.com/doci/6956/GoogleIO2013...
If that comes through on a JPG of a photo off a projected image, I can only imagine how much worse the comparison looks in person.
