If >$400 is the expected price range for smartphones with the new MT6595, then I'm already a bit disappointed.
I was hoping for S800 performance in ~$300 devices.

Lenovo has always been on the pricey side for an OEM using mediatek chips. You will definitely see those < $300 from less established brands if it gets used as widely as the other mtk's.

Not my first choice for a phone as there are lot cheaper but better phone on the market that are highly recommended by the consumers ( like http://www.topreport.org/phones/ for example...)

Are you sure, that it is not 4x ARM Cortex-A17 processors & 4x ARM Cortex-A7 processor?

MT6595 is 4xA17+4xA7. Did Anand take the technicality away when he resigned?

I'm sorry, I misread the A17 as A7 on the one press sheet and the True8Core name acted as a confirmation of sort afterward that I had read it correctly.

Thanks for the update. I'm sorry that I was a bit harsh with my comments.

I would rather people be harsh and correct me than say nothing and let the error sit there forever. It's always appreciated and I understand that people are harsh here because they don't want the site to become terrible.

Maybe the MT6595m is a true Cortex A7, the m designation probably makes the difference?
  • Brandon Chester - Thursday, September 4, 2014 - link

No no, it was my mistake. The 6595M runs the A17s and the A7s 200MHz slower than the 6595.

The price is 399$ for the X2.
429$ is for the Z2 - oddly since the X2 has the better specs.
  • Brandon Chester - Thursday, September 4, 2014 - link

    Thanks for that. Fixed.

    My pleasure.
Noticed the little attachable speaker accessory? It's interesting enough maybe it deserves to be mentioned too.

Well, a big part of that $429 price tag is the 32GB. Im still not convinced there is a reason to have so much onboard storage. I have 200 apps on my phone and 30 music albums and even some movies and tv shows. And I still have half of my 16GB of storage free. Also, who really needs the 1080p panel? I'm really struggling to see a value in such a thing. I love my 720p display. I especially love the fact that it can be so much brighter per unit of battery life compared to a 1080p panel. And 8 cores? wtf. On my 2 core phone, if processes go haywire it causes my phone to slow down, which causes me to do something about them. With 8 cores, how will you ever really know how many "rogue" processes you have running in the background sucking your battery dry? I'd rather just deal with a slow phone so that I can be aware of a rogue process and kill it, rather than have it silently drain my battery.

Wow, I have about 50 apps, one album, a few podcasts and no movies and TV shows (pictures and no video) and I'm running at about <1 GB free from 16GB (iOS). You must have a nice compression algorithm for your media. I think a 1080p resolution for a 5" display is sufficient, 720p would be horrendous (kind of like the iPad mini before retina). I don't use android, but i'm pretty sure android has a task manager of sorts to take a look at apps and their power draw, allowing you to kill services and processes (iOS has a few apps that log your power draw, but you have to task manage the apps separately).

Also, 8 cores is in a Big.Little configuration - not all 8 cores are running at the same time - it's 4 and 4. I've also never seen a use case with my friends androids and or my iOS where I was CPU limited - we've always been RAM limited.

"not all 8 cores are running at the same time"
Those were the old times... Now, most/all big.LITTLE configurations are GTS enabled, meaning all cores can be on if needed.

I call BS... That 32GB of flash probably cost around $10...

    Oh look what I found: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/N2M400FDB... -- that's Qty:1 pricing too...
