Can you still do the WP 8.1 style start background? It does look great as well, in my view.

Joe Belfiore stated on twitter that the current "Window in tile" view will be coming to WP10 as well.

I go out and buy their flagship 1520 phone and I have to wait for windows 10? Thanks Microsoft.

huh, upset on Microsoft because preview version is not available for your model? Chill out, they cannot test all models in one go. It will be coming for 1520 soon..
Also it is alpha preview, of something goes wrong don't start whining either ..

They have to change partitioning on the other phones, and this build doesn't do that yet. I'll happily let them take their time on that.

I'm not sure you want to be using it as your daily driver anyways. Certainly not something you put on a $500 phone, not until at least the next build.

wow, yeah google' is gonna have to cave within the next few years and make apps for WP, or by extension, windows 10. This is some amazing looking stuff and i haven't even tried WP at all.

Bring on the new device announcements to go with WP10 >_<

Is there a way to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 after I'm done playing with Windows 10?
  • MonkeyPaw - Thursday, February 12, 2015 - link

Yep. They released a tool to do so. Not sure if that means your phone will get wiped back to OOBE or a restore image. Probably the former.

You know universal apps is something introduced in Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1 when they updated Visual Studio and made Windows Runtime on WP feature complete and started using the same XAML-format? Not something that is introduced with W10. The concept is just extended. They introduce some new store infrastructure too. Universal doesn't always mean Windows Runtime though, you can share stuff between the older runtime-models as well and deliver as one app purchase without building an universal app project in VS. W10 on phones obviously has all the older Phone runtimes too. There's also still stuff in Windows Runtime on phones that is not on Windows Runtime on desktop, small API differences. UI-part of the app isn't shared. Neither is the Office for Windows Runtime a complete office suite with full functionality of course. Most office and power users will need the deskop win32 (or mac) only Office (2016 on Windows) that will come out pretty soon. Be it macros, VBA or add-ins and add-ons. Those will not be available in the offices for the web broweser, phones, tablets or Store etc. So it's not like it will be replaced. Settings app on PC's won't be around on the phone version. It's two different SKUs.

Seems SD400 is the only currently supported CPU.

Haven't tested myself, but a friend said it is a very early beta and recommends not to use it except on a backup phone.
So it is very reasonable it doesn't come on the top phones - those are the primary phone for people.

I have installed it on my lumia 630.There is nothing exceptional in this to call it as windows phone10.Please skip this preview to wait for a better stable build they release.
  • Flunk - Friday, February 13, 2015 - link

The build is really for software developers and enthusiasts who want to see what's coming, it's not meant to be used on your primary phone.

It looks like MS is finally paying attention to the phone now.

iPhones have sold iPads and Macs.
  • Wolfpup - Friday, February 13, 2015 - link

That's a slightly strange list, given for example the 520 has the same RAM and storage as the 635, and the 928 has more of both.

Regarding the Windows 8 preview...I'm still unclear as to whether we should ALL be using that? Presumably the roughly monthly updates to that contain security fixes that won't get passed on to "regular" users getting updates from carriers for months if ever.

    Anyone know?

I really, REALLY hope Windows Phone 10 gives updates to everyone straight from Microsoft, like iOS does...

I think MS should be commended for sharing early versions of the OS with the public. It is for the serious geek in us, not for the average consumer.
  • Michael Bay - Monday, February 16, 2015 - link

Problem is, average idiot consumer somehow always decides it`s bug free and totally representative of the final build, no matter how many times MS writes IF YOU DON`T KNOW WHAT PREVIEW RELEASE IS, GO AWAY NOW AND COME WAY LATER.

    I blame videogames.
