Evaluating Image Quality
We were surprised with the image quality of the cards that we got our hands on. It seems that manufacturers are attempting to use better quality filters, since none of our cards feel below the moderate mark in our image quality testing. This time, the cards were tested on a Samsung SyncMaster 950p at 1600x1200x32 with a 72Hz refresh rate.
One thing to keep in mind is that image quality problems on any of these cards can quickly be remedied by removing a few simple components with a pair of pliers. As we discussed in our Digital Visual Interface (DVI) Explained & Improving GeForce2/3 Image Quality article, the removal of the low-pass filters near the VGA output connector can make any image quality differences between two cards go completely away.
