This has been another slow week for Intel prices. The Pentium 4 line of processors saw a modest drop in price this week. The flagship 1.7Ghz part fell $15 and can now be found for $345. The 1.5Ghz and 1.4Ghz fell $12 and $10 respectively. The 1.4Ghz part offers decent performance for a price that rivals it's 1.0Ghz Pentium III cousin. We should note that investing in a new Pentium 4 not only involves buying a processor, but also an expensive i850 motherboard and RDRAM. For more pricing information on these items, check out our Weekly Memory & Motherboard Price Guide.
The Pentium III line of processors saw another dry week in prices this week. The majority of processors saw no change in price. Notable exceptions were the 866Mhz part, which dropped $8 and the 650Mhz part which fell $9.
As predicted in the last guide, the Celeron line of processors fell in price across the board. Our pick, the 800Mhz (100Mhz FSB) part slipped $9 this week, putting it at $66. The 733Mhz and 700Mhz parts each fell $12.
