Although AMD didn't give us a new Athlon-C processor this week, they did make their entire line of high-end CPU's more affordable. The 1.4Ghz part fell an amazing $50 this week putting it at $184. The 1.33Ghz part fell to $141 - a $41 price reduction. The 1.13Ghz and 1.0Ghz parts fell to $107 and $103, respectively. Even though the 1.13Ghz CPU offers slightly better performance than the 1.0GHz, we'd still recommend it because it is only $4 more. We should note that the new Athlon-C processors require a motherboard capable or handling the 266MHz FSB. Check out the Memory and Motherboard Price Guide for more information and read our latest comparison to find out what chipset you'll want to pair up with your new CPU.
The Athlon-B line of processors followed a similar trend as their Athlon-C cousin's did. The 1.3Ghz part fell a mediocre $13 this week, putting it at $147. The 1.1Ghz part saw a $35 price drop, putting it at $102. The 1.0Ghz can now be found for an all-time low price of $94. The 950Mhz part saw a $24 price reduction, however it is still $4 more than the 1.0Ghz part.
This week we see a new Duron on the streets - the 950Mhz part. Because this part is so new, it is price quite high at $93. Expect the price of this part to fall in coming weeks. The rest of the Duron line remained relatively quiet. The 900Mhz part fell $2, putting it at $67 and the 750Mhz part is a steal at only $29.
